A Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) postgraduate student died after his car skidded and plunged into a lake at the university's Jeli campus on Tuesday, 2 December
According to the New Straits Times, the 25-year-old victim died at the scene, while his friend managed to escape the sinking Perodua Axia.
Jeli district police chief Supt Kamarulzaman Harun said initial investigations found that the incident occurred at around 6.20pm, when the driver lost control of the vehicle while navigating a bend on a downhill stretch of road within the campus.
"The vehicle suddenly went out of control and skidded into the lake. The victim's friend, who was in the front passenger seat, managed to get out and save himself, while the victim died at the scene," said the police.

The victim's body has been sent to Hospital Jeli for a post-mortem, while the friend was taken for emergency treatment
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The university has urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information or speculating about the incident, out of respect for the family and to ensure a smooth investigation
