DAP Announces Pakatan Rakyat’s End

DAP representatives of the Kelantan government are set to resign after the party announced that Pakatan Rakyat no longer exists. This was disclosed by DAP's communications organisation coordinator for Kelantan and Terengganu Lee Chin Chen.

Signalling the end of their love affair, three DAP representatives have decided to quit their Kelantan village chief posts after their party leadership declared game over for the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) pact today. The three are Tang Chee Hung of Kampung Pulai, Irene Tan from a village in the state constituency of Tanjung Mas and David Ng Yang Seng from Kota Lama.

Lee said that DAP's Kelantan and Terengganu communications organisation committee supported the central executive committee (CEC)'s decision and the move to quit is final.

"This action is important to protect the dignity of the party and also to give our support to the CEC. The DAP coordinators are disappointed by PAS' efforts to implement the Syariah Criminal Code II (1993) in Kelantan on hudud. PAS' action was objected by DAP because it was against Pakatan Rakyat's joint policy framework and also the Federal Constitution. The hudud proposal which was stressed by PAS did not even consider the thoughts of the non-Muslims," said Lee in a statement.

He also urged PAS representatives who held government positions in the DAP-led Penang state to follow their example and quit their office.

Hostilities between the two federal opposition parties have been simmering for months, following PAS' hudud push which the DAP maintains was never part of their pact's common policy agreement.
