Local fashion brand Padini has issued an apology after facing backlash over a video posted on its official TikTok account, which many netizens criticised as body shaming

The video, which has since been removed, featured a young employee appearing deep in thought, accompanied by the caption:

"How do I tell the customer that it's not our clothes that are small, but that they need to go on a diet?"

The clip quickly went viral, circulating across social media and sparking outrage from users who called out the retailer for being insensitive towards plus-size customers

"What the heck, that's so rude," one X user commented.

"Fat-shaming in 2025 is crazy. Also, why specify women? When they can just generally say 'customer'," another user said.

"Padini body-shaming their customers. We're living in a simulation," another added.

Within 24 hours, Padini removed the video and issued a public apology

In a statement on TikTok today, 30 October, the company said:

"Padini Holdings wishes to express our sincere apologies for a recent social media video that was insensitive and caused offence.

"We take full responsibility and have removed the video from all our platforms.

"We deeply regret this lapse in judgement and the hurt it has caused. We recognise the importance of listening to our community and learning from this experience.

"The management is reviewing our internal processes to prevent similar issues in the future."

Padini added that it remains committed to treating everyone with respect and understanding while working to maintain the trust of its customers, employees, and the public.
