An off-duty doctor came to the aid of a passenger in distress during a Malaysia Airlines flight from Kuala Lumpur to Miri, Sarawak on Saturday, 1 November

Dr Chung Ghi Waie, a paediatric specialist at Selesa Pacific Hospital in Miri, was returning home from a vacation in Japan when the incident occurred.

According to The Borneo Post, a female passenger suddenly began having difficulty breathing and clutched her chest in pain mid-flight.

Responding immediately to a call from the cabin crew, Dr Chung stepped forward to provide medical assistance

By the time the plane landed in Miri, the woman was reportedly stable and able to breathe normally again.

The passenger's family later took to social media to express their gratitude, with many netizens hailing Dr Chung as a "hero physician".

Dr Chung, who captains the Citi Chaser Pickleball Club, was also celebrated by the club on its social media pages

"Most of us would still be in holiday mode, but a true healer never switches off," they wrote, hinting that Malaysia Airlines should now sponsor his honeymoon flights.

However, Dr Chung has humbly deflected the praise.

"I don't see myself as a hero. I was simply fulfilling my duty as a medical professional to provide help when it was needed. I'm glad I was able to assist, and that the passenger received timely care," he told The Borneo Post.
