Good news for travellers flying into Kuala Lumpur: KLIA Terminal 1 has introduced "Nothing To Declare" green lanes to speed up arrivals and reduce congestion
According to the New Straits Times, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the new customs systems came into operation yesterday, 26 January.
International passengers with nothing to declare can now skip the previously mandatory X-ray screening and head straight out after collecting their luggage.
Loke said the initiative is a collaboration between Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency, and the Customs Department.
"Previously, all passengers were channelled into a single lane where baggage screening was required, causing delays and congestion," Loke said during a visit to the terminal.
There are now three exit lanes after baggage claim:
– Two green lanes for passengers with nothing to declare
– One red lane for those who need to declare items or are flagged for inspection

Loke also assured that national security would not be compromised
He said enforcement officers will still conduct random checks and use risk intelligence and flight manifest data to direct high-risk passengers to the red lane.
The system is currently on a one-month trial and, if successful, will be expanded to Terminal 2 and other airports in the country.
Loke added that the implementation is also part of the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, aimed at managing the growing number of arrivals at KLIA.
"We hope this will help us better manage the daily increase of 80,000 to 90,000 passengers at Terminal 1, 60% of whom are international travellers," Loke said.
