A total of 15 Malaysians are serving on a flotilla of 24 ships from 44 countries that seek to break the blockade of Gaza, which is currently in a state of famine
According to Malay Mail, the Malaysian delegation, led by the Sumud Nusantara Secretariat and consisting of Cinta Gaza Malaysia (CGM), MAPIM Malaysia, and Cinta Salam Malaysia, along with other NGO partners, have joined the flotilla.
They have departed from Barcelona, Spain in hopes of breaking the blockade over the besieged Palestinian enclave. The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) brings together over 1,000 international participants, including the 15 Malaysians.
Famed activists such as Greta Thunberg are also aboard, as well as Game of Thrones actor Liam Cunningham.
The flotilla had previously turned back to Barcelona after encountering bad weather, but they have since resumed their mission to deliver messages and critical aid to the Palestinians of Gaza, who have been suffering through a famine since April 2025.

A third Malaysian group is also preparing to join the effort in Tunisia.
In a statement, Sumud Nusantara director-general Nadir Al-Nuri said the flotilla represents part of a global movement rejecting the siege on Gaza.
A previous flotilla that attempted to break the blockade and deliver supplies, the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, was intercepted by Israeli forces in June.

According to Reuters, 86% of the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) voted to back the resolution on 1 September. It stated that Israel's policies and actions in Gaza had met the legal definition of genocide, as laid out in Article II of the UN's 1948 convention on genocide.
The three-page resolution called on Israel to cease all crimes that constituted genocide in Gaza, including indiscriminate attacks on civilians, sexual violence, forced starvation, and forced displacement of the population.
It also mentioned the war crimes committed by Hamas during the 7 October attacks, which killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and resulted in the kidnapping of 250 hostages, of which 48 remain in captivity.
Israel has denied that any genocide or famine is taking place in Gaza, and accused the association of spreading "Hamas lies".
As of 30 July 2025, more than 63,000 Palestinians have been killed since the start of Israel's offensive.
