Nearly 1,000 Civil Servants Have Faced Disciplinary Action Nationwide In Just 4 Months

The government recorded more than 5,400 complaints related to misconduct and integrity issues across ministries and agencies in just the first four months of this year

In a parliamentary written reply yesterday, 4 November, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said informed the Dewan Rakyat that a total of 5,474 complaints were lodged with Integrity Units (IUs) between January and April this year.

According to the New Straits Times, the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) said these figures were compiled as part of the Integrity Unit's First Term Report for the same period.

In response to these complaints, 930 disciplinary actions were taken under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993, and public agencies also carried out 948 monitoring activities regarding legal and regulatory compliance, she wrote in a parliamentary reply.

As of 31 August 2025, the government has established a total of 479 Integrity Units across both federal and state levels.

This total includes 28 IUs in ministries, 105 in federal agencies, 11 in state secretary offices, 67 in state agencies, 86 among local authorities, 112 in federal statutory bodies, and 70 in state statutory bodies.
