A Malaysian mother has thanked AirAsia staff for their quick and compassionate response when her 1-year-old daughter faced a medical emergency during a recent flight

In a Facebook post on Saturday, 5 July, Jacyntha Florentius shared that she and her daughter, Natashya Sofea, were aboard AirAsia flight AK115 from Guangzhou, China to Kuala Lumpur.

The flight, which departed at 5.55am, was smooth, and her daughter slept most of the way. However, around 90 minutes into the journey, Natashya began to seem unwell after waking up from a nap and breastfeeding.

"Suddenly, she seemed restless — crying one moment, quiet the next. Then, her face turned pale, lips went pale, and she looked like she was struggling to breathe, weak, and not very responsive," Jacyntha recalled.

She immediately tried to stimulate her daughter by patting her back, rubbing her limbs, and attempting to make her cry. At the same time, she alerted the flight crew and asked for oxygen.

"The crew responded quickly and efficiently! After giving her oxygen, her condition improved — her lips started to turn pink again," she wrote.

The crew quickly made an announcement asking if there was a doctor on board, and to their relief, a kind doctor came forward to assist.

Jacyntha added that the pilot was informed and the plane's altitude was lowered to help her daughter breathe more easily.

Although Natashya began to stabilise, the flight was diverted to Ho Chi Minh City for immediate medical attention

"During the 30-minute descent, the crew kept coming to check on Tashya, massaging her hands and feet, and checking her pulse. They were so caring," said the thankful mother.

Upon landing, a medical team boarded the plane to assess Natashya before she and her mother were taken by ambulance to a hospital. Jacyntha said an AirAsia ground staff member accompanied them throughout their hospital visit, where Natashya underwent several tests, including an ECG, echocardiogram, and X-ray.

Grateful for the care and concern shown, Jacyntha said AirAsia even provided them with complimentary tickets to return home safely to Kuala Lumpur.

She explained that her daughter had likely suffered from sudden altitude sickness while on board, and hoped the airline would recognise the seven crew members who responded to the emergency.

Her heartfelt post has since gone viral, garnering over 40,000 shares, with netizens applauding the AirAsia team for their response.
