A Malaysian man has shared how he lost both his legs to diabetes after years of consuming excessive sugar, including drinking soft drinks mixed with condensed milk every night

In a TikTok video posted by @kedidi_kakipalsu, the middle-aged man recounted that he regularly drank soft drinks with condensed milk whenever he went out with friends.

"I wouldn't say I was addicted, but it was really delicious," he said, adding that it became a nightly habit.

He later expressed regret, saying his excessive sugar intake eventually led to diabetes, which resulted in the amputation of both his legs.

The video was shared by Kedidi Kaki Palsu, a social enterprise that manufactures and sells prosthetic legs, and in some cases provides them free to underprivileged individuals

The organisation also frequently shares stories of amputees it assists on TikTok to raise awareness about diabetes and its complications.

Several other amputees featured by the organisation said they used to consume several bottles of sugary carbonated drinks or energy drinks daily, unaware that their blood sugar levels were dangerously high.

Many only realised something was wrong when wounds on their legs failed to heal — a common sign of diabetes-related complications.

Diabetes is a chronic condition where the body struggles to regulate blood glucose levels

Persistently high blood sugar can damage nerves and blood vessels, causing numbness that makes injuries difficult to detect and slow healing. Small wounds and infections can worsen, sometimes leading to limb amputation.

Long-term uncontrolled diabetes can also severely damage the eyes, kidneys, and heart.
