An attempt to smuggle cannabis worth RM8.3 million was foiled by the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) at Penang International Airport, leading to the arrest of four Malaysians who believed they were on an all-expenses-paid trip to Manchester, UK
MCBA Director-General Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain told the New Straits Times that the suspects — two male-female pairs from Johor, all in their 20s — were detained at 8.15pm on Monday, 3 November, after cannabis was discovered in their luggage.

The plan unravelled when the second couple, who were promised a trip to Manchester via Singapore, noticed their flight tickets were only valid as far as Singapore, unlike the first couple, whose tickets were correct
The second couple's suspicion led them to cancel their journey and request their checked-in luggage back. The airline contacted MCBA officers, who scanned the retrieved bags and found they contained cannabis.
This immediately led officers to intercept the first couple, whose luggage was also re-screened and found to contain drugs. A total of 86kg of cannabis in 68 packets, valued at nearly RM8.3 million, was seized.
All four suspects, who have no prior criminal records, admitted they were offered jobs via TikTok, promising RM8,000 to RM11,000 to transport items
The case is now being investigated by the Customs Department's Narcotics Division under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Authorities warn the public to be vigilant about online job offers involving travel.
