A 39-year-old Malaysian man has been arrested in Singapore for attempting to smuggle drugs, including about 3.2kg of cannabis and 1.7kg of methamphetamine, through the Woodlands Checkpoint

In a joint statement on Monday, 29 December, Singapore's Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) and the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said the man was stopped for enhanced checks at the border on 22 December.

During the inspection, officers uncovered a total of seven bundles suspected to contain controlled drugs in the man's bag.

A total of 3,272g of cannabis and 1,709g of methamphetamine, commonly known as "ice", were found in the bundles.

Authorities said the drugs have an estimated street value of more than SGD237,000 (approximately RM750,000)

They said the amount could potentially supply about 1,440 drug abusers for a week.

Investigations are ongoing under Section 7 of Singapore's Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, which carries the death penalty for importing or exporting more than 250g of methamphetamine or 500g of cannabis.
