Chen had posted a video of the incident on social media last Friday, 28 March, appealing for the driver who struck his father in their hometown of Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan, to come forward.
The Singapore-based actor, who stars in the ongoing Mediacorp drama Emerald Hill – The Little Nyonya Story, said his 84-year-old father was riding his motorcycle when he was hit by a car. The driver fled the scene, leaving his father lying motionless on the road.
Chen said his father passed away a few hours later at the hospital.
"He didn't know you, and I don't know why you did that to him," Chen said in the video. "This is not for revenge. I just want you to say sorry."
Chen, who was on holiday in Thailand with his family when the accident happened, also called for improved emergency services in Malaysia, expressing frustration over the delay in medical assistance
"He laid there on the ground for half an hour before the ambulance came. By the time he got to the hospital, it had been over an hour from when the crash occurred, and he likely missed the critical period to receive treatment just like that," he said, as quoted by The Straits Times.
Chen described his late father as a healthy, optimistic man who raised seven children by running a small provision shop.

In a statement issued on Sunday, 30 March, Jelebu police confirmed the accident, and stated that a 62-year-old man had come forward to the Jelebu Traffic Police Station on the same day
The police said the man tested negative in a urine screening, and that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving.
