A motorcyclist was left injured and shaken after a kite string slashed his neck while he was riding past Taman Tasik Metropolitan Kepong

The terrifying moment was captured in a now-viral video showing the man standing by the side of the highway, visibly distressed as he recounts the incident.

"I hope the authorities take action. The kites are reaching across the entire highway. I was hurt. Thankfully, I was wearing a neck covering. Otherwise, it could've been worse, I could've been strangled," he said, showing his injury and the damage to his shirt and backpack.

According to Harian Metro, the incident took place around 6pm on Sunday, 20 July.

The rider, 27-year-old Muhammad Faris Rosaidee, was travelling from his home in Batu Caves to Bandar Sri Damansara to meet a friend when the incident happened

He was riding along the MRR2 highway, a route he often takes, when he suddenly felt something tighten across his body.

"I didn't see the string. I felt it first touch my body, then it rose to chest level, and finally to my neck.

"I was wearing three layers of clothing at the time – a jacket, a shirt, and I had a backpack. All three were torn, and it even grazed the skin on my shoulder," he told Harian Metro.

"I couldn't stop because there were cars on both sides. All I could do was slow down my motorcycle and wait for the string around my neck to snap on its own," he recalled.

Thankfully, Faris' injuries were not severe

"The doctor said it only affected the top layer of skin, like a burn. There was no bleeding. I've received treatment at a nearby clinic," he said, crediting his balaclava for softening the impact.

Faris has since lodged a police report at the Gombak district police headquarters. Investigating officers have also contacted him to assist with filing further reports with the traffic police and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

"I went this morning to make an official complaint at DBKL. Alhamdulillah, all police reports have been submitted," he shared.

Faris also noted that he's not the only one affected

Taman Tasik Metropolitan Kepong is a popular kite-flying spot, especially on weekends. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time kite strings have posed a danger in the area.

He claims others have reported similar incidents and is now calling for designated kite-flying zones to prevent similar accidents in the future.

"I made the video to raise awareness. For those asking — Alhamdulillah, I'm okay. I'm just worried it could happen to someone else," he said.

This incident is one of several reported cases involving hazardous kite strings

In January, according to The Star, a policeman in Uttar Pradesh, India died after a plastic kite string became entangled around his neck, slitting his throat.

Back in 2022, Wau Post reported a similar case in Batu Pahat, Johor, where a man's father suffered a neck injury from a kite string while riding past Rivercity Business Park.
