The Health Ministry (MOH) has refuted an online claim alleging that Sungai Buloh Hospital is facing an overload of patients and a shortage of doctors
On Tuesday, 1 July, a tweet went viral showing a notice allegedly posted at the hospital's Orthopaedic Specialist Clinic.
The sign informed patients of longer-than-usual waiting times at the Spine Clinic due to an overwhelming number of patients and a lack of staff.
It claimed only one specialist and three medical officers were on duty to attend to 300 patients.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience and cooperation. The clinic is working hard to improve its workflow and provide more efficient service to all patients. Thank you," the notice read.

The person who shared the tweet said the photo was taken by a friend accompanying a family member at the clinic, where they faced long delays
"This is extremely worrying and may be jeopardising both the workforce and patient wellbeing," they said, tagging Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zulkefly Ahmad, and the ministry.
Responding on X, MOH acknowledged the strain on referral hospitals like Sungai Buloh, but clarified that the situation was misrepresented
"We understand the difficulties faced by patients and their families, especially concerning waiting times," it posted yesterday, 3 July.
However, the ministry said a review found that three specialists and three medical officers were on duty that day — not just four doctors — and that the clinic had attended to 158 patients.

According to MOH, the higher figure circulating online likely included family members and caregivers who were accompanying patients
"This is a common practice in public healthcare facilities, particularly for elderly patients and children," it said.
The ministry added that staffing levels that day adhered to the clinic's existing schedule and operational capacity.
It reiterated that efforts are ongoing to improve patient flow at high-demand referral hospitals like Sungai Buloh, which typically handles a heavy patient load.
