Miriam Defensor Santiago (MDS) was rushed to the Makati Medical Center (MMC) by ambulance on Monday, 30 May
A statement was sent to the media by MDS's public affairs and media relations officers saying that the senator's condition was announced today by her husband, Narciso "Jun" Santiago Jr.
Mr. Santiago told the public that visitors are not allowed and that gifts (flowers and other blooms) will not be accepted.
The senator was transferred from her private room to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Tuesday night, 31 May
Mr. Santiago said that the senator is bearing well with her trademark sense of humor, according to his statement which was also posted on MDS's Facebook [page] (https://www.facebook.com/MDS2016/photos/a.1448594232096653.1073741828.1448236475465762/1733017556987651/?type=3&permPage=1).

Just last 22 April, MDS posted a video on her Facebook page to thank her supporters and remind them that she's feeling much better than before. She said in this video that she has a new medicine and she's perfectly normal now:
"Miriam said that she thanks all her family, friends, supporters, fans, and others who helped pray for her recovery and sent their well-wishes on Facebook," he said in the statement
