From Now On, Melaka Should No Longer Be Spelled As “Malacca”
"The move is intended to standardise the use of the name Melaka either in written or verbal forms, in all media, particularly the English media."
Cover image via NustaThe Melaka state exco has informed that the the name of the state has been standardised to 'Melaka'.
The English spelling of the name – Malacca – will no longer be used.
In a report by Bernama yesterday, 3 May, Melaka state secretary Datuk Naim Abu Bakar said that all official correspondence and media outlets should start using the name 'Melaka' in all their publications, effective immediately.
Dubbed as 'The Historic State', Melaka, would usually be spelled as Malacca in English publications.
The Stadthuys in Melaka was built by the Dutch in 1650 as the office of the Dutch Governor and Deputy Governor.
