The Melaka state government has announced a special public holiday for all civil servants in the state on the first day of Ramadan, which is expected to fall on 19 February
According to Bernama, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the holiday is a token of appreciation for civil servants in Melaka for their commitment in implementing various programmes last year.
Ab Rauf made the announcement during a 2026 New Year address themed Year of Implementation: Sustainability Indicators, Fulfilling Trust, Strengthening Performance at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh on Monday, 19 January.
Also present were Melaka State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Ibrahim Durum and Melaka State Secretary Datuk Azhar Arshad.

He expressed hope that the holiday would give civil servants the opportunity to make preparations for Ramadan and spend time with their families
"Hopefully, with this Ramadan holiday, we can bring those who are far away closer, and those who have not been able to be together for a long time can be reunited," he said.
According to the calendar, Melaka will enjoy a six-day weekend that week, starting with the Chinese New Year public holidays on 17 and 18 February, the special holiday on 19 February, Independence Declaration Day — a Melaka state public holiday on 20 February, followed by the weekend on Saturday and Sunday, 21 and 22 February.
