Massive Blaze Breaks Out In Pantai Dalam, Razes Homes And Shoplots

A massive fire broke out at a row of shoplots in Pantai Dalam, Kuala Lumpur, near the Pantai Indah apartment complex late last night, 7 August

Videos and photos shared by eyewitnesses on social media showed the flames and thick black smoke billowing from the scene.

Residents could also be seen taking refuge at a nearby highway overpass to escape the blaze.

The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department confirmed receiving a distress call about the incident at 11.11pm

An operations centre spokesperson said firefighters from the Pantai Dalam station were immediately dispatched to the scene, assisted by teams from the Hang Tuah and Hartamas stations.

"The fire had engulfed housing units and shop premises," they said, as quoted by the New Straits Times.

As of 12.55am, firefighters were still trying to contain the blaze to prevent it from spreading to the nearby apartments

According to Malay Mail, the fire was brought under control at 1.49am.

Most of the row of shops, including a Mydin Mart, as well as a squatter settlement, were reportedly destroyed in the fire.

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
