With an entry fee of RM220, the bait trader is now a millionaire

Still in shock, the father of four said he was speechless when his name was announced.

"Alhamdulillah, I see this as a blessing in conjunction with my third child's 10th birthday on the same day," he told Bernama.

The runner-up, also from Terengganu, took home RM100,000, while the third-place winner from Selangor won RM50,000.

Muhammad Khalis, who runs a small business selling his own fishing bait oil mixture, said he has been competing in fishing tournaments for the past four years

His last big haul was RM30,000 at a fishing competition in Jertih.

Looking ahead, he plans to use the prize money to build a home, expand his wife's food business, and save for the future.

However, he said he would err on the side of caution, as the sudden windfall has drawn overwhelming attention.

"No less than 1,000 people have contacted me through WhatsApp, text messages, and social media asking for money, most of whom I do not know," he said.
