A 54-year-old Malaysian has lost RM38,090 after attempting to purchase mangoes online

According to the New Straits Times, Kuala Terengganu district police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said the man lodged a report at 11pm yesterday, 27 April, after realising he had been scammed.

The victim was at his office when he came across a Facebook advertisement offering Harumanis mangoes and contacted the number listed.

"He then clicked on a link provided and entered his banking details, including his account number, password, and CVV," Azli said.

The victim later discovered seven unauthorised transactions from his bank account, amounting to RM38,090 in losses

Azli added that this is not an isolated case, with district police recording four Harumanis-related scam cases so far, involving losses of up to RM70,000.

"The syndicate's modus operandi involves luring victims into clicking malicious links," he said, urging the public to verify sources before clicking on links or sharing sensitive financial information.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
