A man in his 30s lost his leg after a fireworks accident outside his home in Segamat, Johor
According to Bernama, Segamat district police chief Supt Mohd Jumazanzahir Chek Ismail said the 12.30am incident on Tuesday, 17 February, resulted in the victim sustaining severe injuries. He was rushed to the red zone of Segamat Hospital for treatment.
The medical officer on duty confirmed the victim underwent a below-knee amputation on his left leg, and is currently reported to be in stable condition.
"Initial investigations found that the victim was believed to be handling a '4D 16 Shot (Premium) shoot cake' firework in front of his house in Taman Damai Jaya, Bukit Siput in conjunction with Chinese New Year celebrations," Mohd Jumazanzahir said in a statement.
According to China Press, the man's girlfriend was also injured in the incident.

The fireworks box had reportedly tipped over while firing, striking the man's lower limb and causing burns to his girlfriend's arms and legs
She was also taken to Segamat Hospital for treatment.
A video of the incident shared by the Chinese daily sparked concern among netizens, with many noting that the fireworks box was not secured before being lit.
"That's not a secured box," one Facebook user commented.
Another warned, "These fireworks have a lot of explosive power. When setting them off, you should use a heavy object to support the sides of the box for safety. If they hit your body or head, the consequences could be disastrous. While fireworks are fun, it's safest to avoid playing with these potentially dangerous ones."

The police said the case is being investigated under Sections 6 and 8 of the Explosives Act 1957
"For offences that involve causing an explosion that endangers life, and possessing explosive materials, the law provides for imprisonment of up to seven years, a fine of RM10,000, or both," Mohd Jumazanzahir said.
He also reminded the public to use only permitted fireworks in open areas and to follow safety precautions, warning that misuse can result in serious injury as well as legal consequences.
