A Spanish man was recently awarded 20,000 euros (RM95,000) in damages after a botched procedure meant to treat a painful condition left him permanently impaired and with significant loss of genital length

In October 2011, the then 52-year-old patient sought medical treatment for painful erections and penis curvature, according to El Doce.

He was diagnosed with Peyronie's disease, a condition where fibrous scar tissue develops inside the penis.

When non-surgical treatments failed to improve his condition, doctors at a public hospital in Murcia proposed surgery, which was carried out in October 2012, as reported by Sur.

Instead of resolving his issues, the surgery resulted in severe complications

The man's penis shrank by 6cm, making normal sexual relations impossible. He also developed severe erectile dysfunction that did not respond to medication, as well as constant pain, even while sitting, because his glans had been improperly inserted into subcutaneous fat during the procedure.

In January 2015, specialists in Valencia confirmed that his condition was irreversible.

The man sued for over 67,000 euros (RM318,832), citing physical, aesthetic, and psychological harm

While the court did not grant the full amount, it ruled that the Murcian Health Service was liable because the patient had been inadequately informed of the risks.

The court found that the consent form signed by the patient was too generic and failed to warn him of the 'high probability' that the surgery would result in penile shortening or fail to fix the original problem.

He was awarded 20,000 euros (RM95,000) in December 2025 for the lack of informed consent and the resulting impact on his quality of life.
