A man in his 30s was apprehended by Tawau police on Wednesday, 9 July, for indecently exposing himself to a 15-year-old schoolgirl
The suspect was taken into custody after the girl lodged a police report.
The incident occurred at 12.45pm while the victim was walking home from school. She was approached by the suspect, who was driving a four-wheel-drive.
"The suspect initially asked the victim for directions before exposing himself," stated district police chief Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin in a statement.
Fearing for her safety, the victim fled to a nearby residential area
Police subsequently tracked the suspect to a house, apprehending him at 4.30pm the same day. His vehicle was also seized.
Jasmin said the case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act, an offence punishable by up to 20 years' imprisonment and caning.
