A recent Health Ministry report found that 163,521 individuals have benefited from PeKa B40 as of June 2025

PeKa B40 (Skim Peduli Kesihatan untuk Kumpulan B40) is a healthcare initiative under the Health Ministry, managed by ProtectHealth Corporation.

It provides free health screenings and medical device assistance for Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) recipients aged 40 and above, along with their registered spouses.

No registration is required — eligibility is automatic.

One of the main goals of PeKa B40 is to address the growing prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among the lower-income communities or groups

The scheme covers:

  • Free health screenings for early detection of non-communicable disease (NCDs)
  • Cancer treatment incentives of RM1,000 for those completing treatment
  • Medical device assistance of up to RM20,000
  • Transport fare incentives of up to RM1,000

For Belanjawan 2025, the government allocated RM80 million to continue the programme, which was first introduced in May 2019.

Over the years, PeKa B40 has helped shed light on health issues in the B40 community

According to ProtectHealth, nearly 70% of the 301,650 participants screened in 2024 were found to have at least one NCD, such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol or obesity. One in four was diagnosed with two or more conditions.

Despite its wide coverage, participation remains low. Since its launch, only 1.6 million out of 6.9 million eligible STR recipients have undergone screenings. As of 31 March 2025, just 22.82% had taken part, though the June figures show a more encouraging uptake.

To improve access, ProtectHealth has partnered with:

  • 3,979 private clinics
  • 1,044 government clinics
  • 149 government hospitals
  • 211 private laboratories

It also runs outreach programmes and home visits to raise awareness about the importance of early prevention.
