An independent animal rescuer has called for action after a man was allegedly seen throwing a dog against a wall, leaving it with a fractured leg
Independent rescuer Kavitha Mahalingam said she came across a video last week showing the alleged abuse and has since helped rescue the injured dog, which is now undergoing treatment and expected to require surgery.
CCTV footage, reportedly obtained by the owner of the house where the incident occurred, shows the man carrying the dog before slamming it against a wall.

Kavitha said the man, who is a tenant, claimed the dog had bitten him, which allegedly led to the incident.
She added that the dog was later rescued with the help of another woman who had been alerted to the video.
The woman then contacted the house owner, and together with the owner and a friend, they went to the property.
Using a spare key, they entered the premises and managed to retrieve the dog, which was immediately sent for veterinary care.

Kavita said multiple reports have been lodged with the police and Department of Veterinary Services (DVS), with authorities stating that the case is under investigation
The dog, named Qiu Qiu, is currently receiving treatment and is expected to undergo surgery for its fractured leg.
According to a veterinary report, a radiograph revealed a fracture of the dog's right oblique olecranon, which is believed to have occurred within the past week.

Kavitha alleged that the man may have a history of animal cruelty, including claims that he previously killed a Pomeranian and several cats
She added that multiple police reports were lodged on 16, 17, and 19 April at different stations.
Reports were also submitted to DVS on 17 and 19 April.
At the time of writing, there has been no further update from the police or the DVS.
SAYS has reached out to the man and the DVS for comment but has yet to receive a response.
