A recruiter in Malaysia was left completely stunned after an applicant cited a rather unusual reason for turning down a job offer: their father disapproved of the salary

The bizarre exchange, which left many netizens confused, was shared by the recruiter on Threads on 19 August.

According to The Sun, the applicant had no issues with the role itself, but ultimately rejected the offer because their father was unhappy with the pay.

This response completely baffled the recruiter, who noted that while the applicant was the one who went through the entire application and interview process, the final decision seemingly rested with their father.

The recruiter's post was captioned with their bewildered question: "So, now it's the child who's applying for the job, but what am I supposed to reply to this?".

Netizens chimed in with hilarious responses

One asked, "So, do they have to bring their father along to negotiate the salary?", while another jokingly suggested, "Ask for their father's resume, then interview the father. Let's confuse both."

Meanwhile, one commenter pointed out that it's normal for children to inform parents of the details of a job offer, including the salary.

"There are parents who don't agree [with the salary]. But you're not supposed to tell [the interviewer] that," they said.
