Malaysian model and actress M Gayathri has responded to the viral video of her arguing with several policemen, urging the media and netizens not to spread fake news about the incident
A nine-second video showed Gayathri arguing with police officers on Jalan Tun Sambanthan in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur last Monday, 25 July.
"You (are) recording me? I'll record you," she can be heard saying in the video after quarrelling with a traffic police officer on a motorcycle.
She was arrested four days later on Friday, 28 July, following a report lodged against her by a police officer over the incident, reported Free Malaysia Today.
Brickfields police chief Amihizam Abdul Shukor said that she was being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing civil servants from carrying out their duties, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998 for offensive online content intended to threaten or harass another person, among other things.
Gayathri was released on bail after spending two hours at the police station.
New Straits Times reported that the incident happened when police officers confronted her for allegedly not wearing a seatbelt and using a mobile phone while driving.
