In a Facebook post on Sunday, 9 March, Connie Tew shared that the incident occurred on 1 February during a staycation with her friends on the third day of Chinese New Year.
The group of 36 friends reserved two bungalows for a three-day, two-night stay. After spotting a lok lok truck at their neighbour's compound, they inquired about hiring it to cater dinner for 40 people that evening.
According to Tew, the arrangement was confirmed after the lok lok truck driver contacted his boss.

The festive mood quickly turned into a nightmare
By 10pm, just four hours after their 6pm dinner, more than 10 people began vomiting and experiencing diarrhoea, common symptoms of food poisoning.
The situation worsened the next morning, with two individuals in such severe condition that they had to be hospitalised, while others sought treatment at nearby clinics.
"All members of my group were deeply affected by this incident. Some had to take sick leave from work, while children attending international schools missed several classes.
"Without a doubt, everyone suffered significantly and faced financial losses as a result," Tew recounted.
She stated that 27 of the 36 individuals in the group fell ill due to the incident.

She demanded that the lok lok truck company compensate RM3,375 for the total medical expenses and refund the RM2,000 paid for their service
However, the company allegedly refused to take responsibility.
"They keep pushing the blame to the lok lok truck driver, claiming that he took the job on his own… They also tried to claim that we got food poisoning from eating something else in the afternoon," Tew claimed.
She refuted this by pointing out that her friends had eaten different meals in five different groups before dinner, yet all of them still fell ill.
"Not a single one of us was spared from food poisoning," Tew said.

The woman clarified that she shared her story not to recover the money, but to raise awareness and urge food businesses to prioritise hygiene
"If you saw your friends suffering from food poisoning for two to three days, would you feel okay?
"I believe many of you have experienced food poisoning before and understand how painful it can be. To all food business owners: please pay attention to food quality and hygiene," Tew concluded the post.
