Foreign Woman Faces 8 Charges Including Attempted Murder In Kajang Knife Rampage

A Chinese national studying at a local public university has been charged with eight counts of attempted murder and causing injury following a knife attack in Kajang last week
According to the New Straits Times, 24-year-old Liu Ting faces three counts of attempted murder involving Nuruddin Al-Muhammady Ahmad Nasir, 19; Muhammad Danish Naim Mohd Azwan, 21; and Norbilah Ahmad, 35, at the Metropoint Complex intersection around 12pm on 13 August.
The charge under Section 307 of the Penal Code carries up to 10 years' imprisonment and a fine, and up to 20 years if injury is caused.
Liu was also charged with two counts of causing grievous hurt for allegedly slashing the right arm of Yeak Chooi Eng, 60, and stabbing Izzat Suhaime Affindi, 27, in the stomach.
The charge under Section 326 of the Penal Code carries up to 20 years' imprisonment, a fine, or whipping, if convicted.

Court proceedings took an unexpected turn when Liu appeared confused and initially pleaded guilty to the charges
Wearing an orange shirt and showing bruises with swollen eyes, she initially did not respond when the charges were read to her by an interpreter before Judge Normastura Ayub at the Kajang Sessions Court on Wednesday, 20 August.
Her lawyer tried to assist by asking her to state her plea, but she remained silent. Moments later, Liu suddenly declared she wished to plead guilty, prompting her lawyer to request an adjournment.
When the hearing resumed 30 minutes later, Liu appeared calmer, acknowledged that she understood the charges, and pleaded not guilty to all counts.
According to China Press, her facial injuries were self-inflicted after she reportedly banged her head against a wall while in the detention room.
The court denied bail and ordered her to undergo psychiatric evaluation at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Tanjung Rambutan, Perak. The case was fixed for mention on 19 September.

All eight charges were allegedly committed on Jalan Besar near Metropoint Complex on 13 August.
The incident was captured in several videos that went viral on social media, showing Liu crashing into some motorcycles before emerging from her car with a knife and lunging at bystanders. Several members of the public were hurt at they attempted to restrain her.
