A 54-year-old security guard died of a heart attack just hours after he was allegedly assaulted by a man at a condominium in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur, last Monday, 13 October

A three-minute-28-second video of the incident has since gone viral, showing a man angrily berating, kicking, and shoving the guard at a guardhouse as the victim tries to calm him down.

According to Harian Metro, Sentul district police chief ACP Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said the incident occurred around 5am when the male tenant approached the victim, identified as R Chandran, asking him to accompany him to his unit, claiming he had forgotten his access card.

However, Chandran refused as he was not permitted to leave his post.

"The suspect then became aggressive, slapping the left side of the victim's face, punching his forehead, and stepping on his body and legs," said Ahmad Sukarno in a statement on Thursday, 16 October.

Chandran later lodged a police report and sought treatment at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) for soft tissue injuries before being allowed to return home

At 9.30pm that same night, he was found unconscious at his residence in Jalan Ipoh. His wife immediately called for an ambulance, but health officers confirmed that he had died.

A post-mortem conducted at HKL on Tuesday, 14 October, found that the cause of death was a heart attack.

The 32-year-old suspect was arrested the same day to assist investigations under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960 for possessing imitation firearms

According to the New Straits Times, one of Chandran's colleagues said the assailant appeared to be holding a pistol when he rushed over to help him.

"When I got downstairs, they were already struggling. I tried to break up the fight, but the suspect got more aggressive. Chandran tried to move away, but the man kept coming at him," he said.

He added that Chandran was one of the most reliable guards in the company: "He always made sure the residents were safe. He was friendly, but serious when it came to work."

Chandran's eldest son, Murugan, 28, told the New Straits Times that the family is devastated by his father's sudden death and has urged the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.

"We're not asking for sympathy; we just want justice and the truth to be told. My father was a good man who did his job. He deserved that much," he said, adding that the family had planned to celebrate Deepavali together.
