UPDATED on 2 October: The dog has been reunited with its owner. SAYS was told that the owner's dad was walking the dog nearby when its leash broke. Startled, the dog ran off.

A panicked dog was spotted darting down in the middle of a busy highway near Taman Naga LRT station in KL on 28 September

That morning, Joey Gan witnessed a scene that would rattle any animal lover. A car had stopped in the middle of the road, and moments later, a dog in a harness appeared and came running after it.

"The dog was panicked and ran crazily here and there [in] the middle of the road," Gan shared in a Facebook post, adding that she wasn't sure if the pup had been abandoned or was simply lost.

Thankfully, alert drivers slowed down in time, averting what could have been a tragic accident.

Several motorists quickly pulled over to help the trembling pup

After losing sight of the car it had been chasing, the frightened dog eventually sat by the roadside of the road, panting heavily and trembling.

That's when a kind couple stopped their car to help, just as Joey circled back to check on the animal.

Together with her friend and another abang who bravely directed traffic, they managed to carry the dog safely into the couple's vehicle.

"I quickly came out from the car and explained everything. Thank you to Yin Joe Tan, her partner, and the abang who stopped all the cars," Gan recounted.

The dog has since been taken to Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals  (SPCA) and is in need of a forever home

Thanks to the couple's generosity, the dog has already been vaccinated and neutered, with all costs covered.

However, there is a tight deadline as the dog only has less than a week to find an adopter or foster who can provide shelter.

Gan is now appealing to the public to help spread the word so that the pup can find a safe and loving home.

"Please help to share out as much as possible so that he can get a home," she wrote.
