A kindergarten teacher in Johor Bahru lost RM100,000 after a scammer impersonated her husband on WhatsApp

According to Johor Bahru Selatan district police chief ACP Raub Selamat, the 52-year-old victim received a message from a foreign number pretending to be her husband, who was in China on a week-long business trip, reported Kosmo.

"The scammer, posing as her husband, told her that his bank account could not be used for business transactions," he said.

Believing the message was genuine, the woman followed the scammer's instructions and made seven separate transfers to three different bank accounts, totalling RM100,000.

It was only after completing the transactions that she called her husband and realised something was wrong

Her husband then told her that his WhatsApp account had been hacked, and that he never asked for money.

She then realised she had fallen victim to a scam and immediately lodged a police report

Raub said the case is being investigated under Section 402 of the Penal Code, adding that efforts are underway to track down those involved.
