Malaysian netizens are outraged after a man was seen making sexually inappropriate comments about a woman while livestreaming at a restaurant, with his wife sitting right across from him
Screen recordings circulating on social media show the man was filming himself eating dinner when he began commenting on a woman seated at the next table, who seemed completely unaware she was being recorded.
During the TikTok livestream, the man allegedly made sexually suggestive comments about the woman's appearance and described wanting to grope her breasts, while gesturing in front of the camera.
His wife could be heard laughing in the background but did not respond to his remarks.
Clips of the livestream have since gone viral, with many users condemning the man for publicly harassing a woman and filming her without her consent
"Look at this man making lewd comments like this, casually livestreaming a stranger's face," one X user wrote.
"When are men like this going to realise that sexual harassment is not a joke?" another user asked.
Following widespread criticism, the man released an apology video
"I apologise to all Malaysians who watched my video at the restaurant last night. Everyone makes mistakes, and this was my first mistake. I consider this my fault," he said.
He added that his wife was not laughing at his remarks, but at something she was reading on her phone.
However, many netizens called his apology insincere, pointing out that he failed to acknowledge the harm or the nature of his actions
"His apology is the same old 'I'm only human' excuse. He's not sorry — just sorry he got caught," said one user.
"Even if his wife wasn't laughing at his comments, she still didn't stop him. That makes her complicit in his perverted behaviour," another wrote.
"Men like this treat sexual harassment as a joke. It's not minor — it's a serious offence," a user added.
While the man has deactivated his TikTok account, reuploads of both his livestream and apology video continue to circulate online
Some netizens urged authorities to take action under the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act 2022, which recognises sexually suggestive or indecent remarks — even those made online or "as a joke" — as a form of harassment.
According to FMT, the woman in the video has lodged a police report about the livestream at the Dang Wangi police station.
