The Kelantan government is reportedly planning for cow rearers in the state to expose their cattle to audio recordings of Quranic verses, with the aim of producing meat similar to Japan's renowned Kobe beef

The unconventional technique is apparently meant to calm and soothe the livestock, so that higher quality beef is produced and profitability of breeders increases
Berita Daily reported that a company producing Naim Beef will be taking charge of the programme.
Though Kelantan currently produces the second best beef quality in the country, its government is relying on this newfound method to take them to the top
According to Datuk Che Abdullah Mat Nawi, the State Agriculture, Agro-Based Industry, Green Technology and Biotechnology Committee chairman, "When these cows are bred here they are very disciplined and listen to the cow herders."
"The only problem is as soon as they are transported elsewhere they become irrational and difficult to handle. That is why we are trying to groom the cows to be tame," he said.

Despite the government's expectations that the technique will result in meat as tender as Kobe beef, Che Abdullah admitted that the effects of cows listening to quranic recitals is still unknown

However, the similar method of playing music to cattle has been shown to calm them down, and thus produce better beef well as higher milk production.
