The National Registration Department (JPN) has urged the public to stop abandoning babies and instead turn to legal avenues such as foster care or adoption when facing difficulties in raising a child
In a recent statement on Threads, JPN stressed that many people may not realise how a single decision, especially in tough circumstances, can shape a child's entire future.
Babies, the department emphasised, should never be abandoned under any circumstances.

Without proper registration, a child may not be legally recognised as a Malaysian citizen, which can affect their access to basic rights, protection under the law, and essential services like education and healthcare.

For those who genuinely feel unable to care for their child, JPN highlighted that there are proper and lawful alternatives available
This includes placing the child under foster care or proceeding with legal adoption, ensuring the baby is raised in a safe and supportive environment.
The department also noted that the process can be facilitated through a sworn declaration, where the biological mother formally hands over the child to adoptive parents.
This documentation helps streamline the legal adoption process and safeguards the child's welfare.
"Every child born is innocent, regardless of the circumstances. They deserve the right to live, to be protected, and to be given a chance at building a future," said JPN.
