Over the next month, all Road Transport Department (JPJ) offices and branches will be open on weekends to encourage Malaysians to renew their driving licences in line with the government's BUDI95 targeted subsidy programme

From 27 September to 26 October, JPJ counters will operate daily from 8.30am to 4.30pm, including Saturdays and Sundays.

According to the New Straits Times, JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the move is to offer more flexibility for those unable to renew their licences on weekdays.

Aedy said the initiative follows findings that 2.3 million holders of Competent Driving Licences (CDL) are currently inactive, either because their licences have expired or have not been renewed for more than three years

He said those whose CDLs had expired for more than three years must retake the Driver's Education Curriculum Parts 2 and 3 tests at a driving institute to regain their licences.

For those whose licences have expired for less than three years, he said immediate renewals can be done via the MyJPJ app or at mySikap portal or kiosks, without needing to go to a JPJ counter.

Aedy also reminded motorists that driving with an inactive licence is an offence under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) and endangers both the driver themselves and other road users

He also urged the public to take advantage of this initiative, stressing that keeping licences valid not only ensures compliance with the law but also enhances road safety.

Under BUDI95, all Malaysians with a valid driving licence can purchase RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre:
