The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has launched an investigation following a viral video depicting an express bus driver engaging in extreme and hazardous behaviour

The footage, which has sparked public outcry, appears to show the driver operating the vehicle with a woman sitting on his lap.

The video clip, believed to have been recorded by a passenger, shows the woman occupying the driver's seat and placing her hands on the steering wheel while the bus was in motion on a highway.

Another video, reportedly captured by a dashboard camera from a trailing vehicle, shows the bus being driven recklessly, weaving dangerously through traffic and "cutting off" other road users at high speed.

The incident allegedly took place while the bus was en route from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) in Kuala Lumpur to Kulai, Johor

JPJ Senior Enforcement Director Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said the department took action after the videos gained traction online., according to the New Straits Times.

He said both the driver and the bus company involved have been identified, adding that authorities recorded the driver's statement at 10am today, 13 April.

The findings will be presented to the JPJ director-general for further legal action and disciplinary measures

Muhammad Kifli urged witnesses and members of the public with additional information to contact the nearest JPJ office.

He also advised motorists, particularly those operating commercial and public transport vehicles, to adhere to road safety laws.

He said such professional negligence is inexcusable, as it places the lives of passengers and other road users at unnecessary risk.
