The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued a critical update for Malaysian motorists on the link between traffic regulations and financial aid
In a recent announcement, the department clarified that all Malaysian Driving Licence (LMM) holders must ensure their licences remain valid to qualify for the BUDI95 targeted fuel subsidy.
This move aims to ensure that government aid is directed at legitimate road users who comply with national transport laws.

JPJ defines an "active" licence as one that has not exceeded its expiry date by more than three years from the previous renewal date, according to its statement.
This policy serves as a regulatory filter, ensuring that only individuals legally permitted to operate a vehicle can access the subsidised fuel rates.
For motorists approaching the three-year expiry threshold, the JPJ has provided a straightforward path to compliance
These individuals may renew their licences directly without needing to retake driving or theoretical tests.
However, those whose licences have lapsed beyond the 36-month limit are not allowed to renew directly.
Instead, they must retake the full driving competency test at a registered driving institute, effectively restarting the licensing process.
JPJ also reminded the public that driving with an expired licence is a punishable offence under the Road Transport Act 1987
Beyond the loss of subsidy eligibility, motorists caught with invalid documentation face fines and potential complications with insurance claims in the event of an accident.
To avoid these risks, JPJ encourages the use of digital platforms to facilitate quick renewals. Motorists can update their status via the MyJPJ mobile application, the mySIKAP portal, or at physical locations including Urban Transformation Centres (UTC) and Pos Malaysia branches.
