A seafood restaurant in Masai, Johor is looking for a customer who was mistakenly overcharged nearly RM3,000 for a fish dish last week

In a Facebook post, Senibong Bay Seafood issued an apology for the error, which occurred on Thursday, 21 August, when a diner identified only as Nina and her family were seated at Table 51.

"Due to a cashiering error, a 1.25kg fish was mistakenly charged as 12.5kg, resulting in an overcharged bill," the restaurant explained.

The restaurant claimed that the customer had already paid before the error was noticed.

"The mistake was entirely ours. We take full responsibility and have carried out internal reviews to prevent such errors in the future," they said.

The restaurant is now appealing for Nina to come forward so they can refund the overcharged amount

"If you were the customer at Table 51 that evening (invoice number 115082), please contact us and provide either the original receipt or proof of payment for verification. We will process the refund immediately to the original payment method," they said.

Senibong Bay Seafood stressed that they wanted to do the right thing, even if the customer did not notice the mistake.

"Customer trust is more important than anything. When a mistake happens, we must admit it and make it right," they said.

The restaurant also shared a photo of the receipt showing the RM2,975 charge for a Cantonese-style steamed red grouper, as well as a screenshot of what appeared to be the customer's five-star Google review.

The post quickly went viral, drawing amused reactions online

"Paid RM2,000 plus for fish… and still rated 5 stars?" one person remarked.

"She isn't Nina, she's the God of Wealth," another joked.

"Sounds like Nina isn't a local. If she made a reservation, she'd be easy to trace. If she walked in, just hope she sees this post," another user commented.
