Japan's newly appointed Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, visited the Japanese Cemetery and the National Monument in Kuala Lumpur during her trip for the 47th ASEAN Summit

In an X post yesterday, 26 October, Takaichi, Japan's first female prime minister, was seen laying flowers at the Japanese Cemetery.

"Today, I visited the Japanese Cemetery in Kuala Lumpur and offered flowers at the memorial. I was deeply moved as I honour the ancestors who lost their lives in Malaysia."

"Following this, I also visited the National Monument, which honours the soldiers and civilians who passed away in the two World Wars and the Malaysia's struggle for independence, allowing me to reflect deeply on Malaysian history," she said.

In a statement, Takaichi spent five minutes at the Japanese Cemetery and 10 minutes at the National Monument.

She laid a wreath at the latter site to honour the fallen.
