At 1.50am, Jamal released an audio recording on WhatsApp denying that he intentionally escaped police custody and claiming that he is willing to cooperate with the police, The Star reported.

The Red Shirts leader explained in the recording that, "I thought I could leave because my remand order was over and my bail had been granted," not realising that some documents needed to be signed first to make it official
Jamal claimed that he left the Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital at 3.15pm on Friday to withdraw money to settle his bail payment from Tabung Haji. He said that he left in a hurry because he was afraid that it might close before he arrived.
It was only until later that the politician realised that the police were looking for him.
According to Channel NewsAsia, Jamal had been uncontactable by police since Friday afternoon, with immigration put on alert.

Jamal, who was under police remand at the Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital, was undergoing treatment for back pain when he "escaped" from police custody
Last week, Jamal was arrested under Section 34 of the Firearms Act 1960, for photos that allegedly depict him carrying and displaying a firearm and under Section 290 of the Penal Code, for committing a public nuisance by smashing beer bottles in front of the Selangor government offices last October.

"I am resting now due to my health condition and I will cooperate fully with the police soon," the 48-year-old said.
