Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has claimed that the city's public transport system is better than Kuala Lumpur's

Citing a Time Out survey, Pramono said Jakarta ranked 17th out of 50 cities globally for public transport, making it second only to Singapore in Southeast Asia, reported Tempo English.

"So, we are ahead of Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Bangkok, and others," he said in a written statement yesterday, 8 September.

The survey, which was published in March, gathered feedback from over 18,500 public transport users globally.

Hong Kong ranked first, followed by Shanghai, Beijing, Abu Dhabi, and Taipei in the top five.

Seoul ranked 8th, Mumbai 9th, Delhi 11th, Singapore 12th, and Jakarta 17th.

Transjakarta president director Welfizon Yuza said the city's public transport system served 1.3 million passengers on a working day last week

The city's public transportation system was affected late last month when protests led to seven stations being burned and another 17 damaged by vandalism.

Pramono said services have since been fully restored and are now in full operation.
