Malaysian influencer and music DJ Siew Pui Yi's former business partner has been remanded for allegedly cheating her out of RM4.3 million

According to FMT, Lai Kai Jian, also known as 'Mentos', was arrested and remanded for four days to assist in a police investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

Lai, reportedly a board member at Siew's company PY Empire, was allegedly entrusted with the funds to settle her income tax obligations with the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN).

In July 2024, Siew obtained a default judgment in the Penang High Court for RM4.3 million against Lai after he failed to enter an appearance to defend the suit.

In the suit, Siew alleged that Lai absconded with funds.

Previously, Siew said she was introduced to Lai in 2019 and was told he was a person with "high integrity", making him a business partner she could trust.

He handled human resources, payroll, and investments at Siew's company but was later accused of misappropriating funds beginning in June 2022.

Siew subsequently filed a police report in Penang, where the alleged first transactions took place.
