Millions were left reeling in disgust after an influencer from China filmed and uploaded a video of his wife's childbirth
The influencer, a 36-year-old Columbia University graduate known online as "Paul in USA", built a massive following of over 12.2 million by documenting his life as a Microsoft product manager in Seattle.
However, his career came to a screeching halt on 11 February 2026 after he uploaded a video of his wife's 23-hour labour on Weibo.

The footage does not just show the miracle of life; it also captures his wife's exposed body and a terrifying medical emergency
According to South China Morning Post, during the delivery, she suffered a third-degree perineal tear and lost 3,344ml of blood due to post-partum haemorrhage.
While his wife underwent an emergency blood transfusion, Paul allegedly continued to film.

More shockingly, he reportedly inserted a paid nappy endorsement into the video, reading the script himself while the medical crisis unfolded
Data suggests Paul's commercial reach was significant, charging up to 298,000 yuan (RM168,000) for videos longer than 60 seconds.
It remains unclear exactly how much he earned from this specific nappy advertisement before the video was eventually deleted.

Despite the backlash, Paul's wife released a statement on 10 February defending the footage
"Our intention was to authentically document the childbirth process. We did not anticipate complications during filming, but still felt it was important to share the footage," she said.
The explanation did little to soothe the Internet's fury, with many accusing the influencer of exploiting his partner's pain for traffic.
The social media platform finally took action on 11 February, banning the "Paul in USA" account for violating platform policies and relevant laws.
