A nasi kandar restaurant in George Town, Penang, recently went viral on Facebook after its assistant manager shared how a self-proclaimed influencer tried to score a free meal
The story was shared by 27-year-old Mirzan Mohamed Yasin, who said the incident occurred last Sunday, 19 October, while he was working at the cashier counter, reported Berita Harian.
"The person came in with their family around 9am and introduced themselves as an influencer.
"Honestly, I didn't know who they were. Then they showed me their social media account, saying they had 40,000 followers," he said.

"I told them they could take videos if they wanted, but they still had to pay," he said.
Despite the refusal, the influencer and their family went ahead with their meal. But when it came time to pay the bill — which came up to RM53.60 — they reminded Mirzan again about their influencer status.
"They said it again, but I still told them they had to pay. In the end, they paid and left with their family," he added.

Mirzan explained that in his four years of managing the restaurant, this was the first time someone had asked for a free meal in exchange for exposure
However, he admitted that he has received similar messages before from influencers asking for payment to promote the restaurant.
"Previously, someone messaged me saying they wanted to shoot a video at our restaurant. I agreed, but then they sent me a quotation for RM2,000. I didn't reply because I didn't see the point of paying for that," he said.
Mirzan said he decided to share the story online because it was a new experience for him, but he didn't expect it to blow up.
