A man in Indonesia allegedly murdered his wife and two young children, saying he was influenced by the popular anime One Piece

According to tvOnenews, the incident occurred on 10 August 2025 in a remote village in East Kalimantan, where police arrested a 33-year-old man named Julius on suspicion of killing his family with a machete.

Following his arrest, footage circulated online showing Julius being questioned.

When asked if One Piece was the reason for the crime, he replied, "Yes, I did not fulfil the living requirements of One Piece. I was scolded by One Piece."

Despite the bizarre confession, authorities clarified that they are treating the case as a domestic dispute and are investigating the suspect's mental state

Berau police public relations chief AKP Ngatijan said investigators are working with psychiatric specialists to assess Julius's mental condition.

He is currently undergoing a formal psychological evaluation.

The victims were identified as the suspect's wife and their two children, aged 4 and 5. Some reports claimed the wife was six months pregnant, but this has not been officially confirmed.

While Julius's remarks have drawn widespread attention, investigators believe his references to the anime may be a sign of a psychological delusion rather than the true motive behind the tragedy

Created by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece is a globally successful manga and anime series about the adventures of a pirate crew searching for a legendary treasure.

Police are continuing to gather evidence and await the results of the psychiatric tests before determining how to proceed with formal charges.
