An Indonesian man who caught his wife with her lover chose to settle the matter by handing her over to him under a traditional custom

According to Tribun Jabar, the husband, identified as SRH, had been married to his wife, NS, for five years before discovering her affair in September at a boarding house in Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi.

Instead of pursuing a conventional divorce, SRH, who is part of the Tolaki tribe, opted to resolve the matter through a local ritual.

The custom, known as Mowea Sarapu, is a traditional reconciliation process for marital conflicts that translates to "letting go and making peace"

The practice aims to preserve the husband's dignity and end the dispute peacefully, reflecting the Tolaki belief that restoring community balance prevents misfortune.

As compensation, the lover provided a cow, a traditional cloth, a copper vessel, and five million rupiah (RM1,300) in cash.

During the ceremony, which was witnessed by elders and relatives, SRH tearfully told the lover, "Please take good care of her. Never hurt her. She has never been happy with me."

The village chief, Safrudin, confirmed that the couple's marriage has since been formally dissolved following the ritual.

"Both families have accepted the outcome as fate and a lesson learned. I hope everyone comes out better from this," Safrudin said.
