A wedding and a funeral taking place just a street apart in Tampin became a quiet display of mutual respect between an Indian and a Chinese family

At one end of the street, a DAP Negeri Sembilan politician was holding a wake at his home for his late mother, who passed away peacefully at the age of 94.

At the same time, an Indian family had rented a nearby hall to host a wedding celebration.

With only a single lane separating the two events, the Chinese family grew concerned that the overlapping ceremonies might cause discomfort to either the bereaved family or the newlyweds, according to China Press.

The local DAP leader sent a friend over to tell the Indian family that they didn't need to hold back on their celebrations, especially since no religious rites were planned that evening

He also shared that his mother had lived a long and fulfilling life, and the family saw the funeral as a "celebration of blessings" rather than a time for sorrowful mourning.

The Indian family, though they said little in return, responded with quiet understanding by lowering the music and ensuring their guests behaved respectfully.

They also coordinated with local RELA volunteers to park vehicles in nearby open spaces, minimising traffic and disruption for their neighbours.

The DAP rep and his relatives later expressed heartfelt appreciation for the Indian family, noting that such thoughtfulness deserved to be acknowledged.

The family even responded with a "heart" hand gesture as a sign of thanks.

Other local DAP leaders expressed hope that such everyday acts of empathy and cultural sensitivity could serve as a model for communities across the country.
