The National Integrated Immigration System (MyNIISe) app is not yet mandatory, and travellers can continue using existing immigration clearance methods at Malaysia's entry points

Malaysians can still clear immigration using their passports at autogates and manual counters as usual, in addition to using the MyBorderPass and MyNIISe apps.

In a statement today, 14 January, Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban clarified that the MyNIISe app will begin using MyDigital ID for account registration and login from 15 January.

He stressed that this does not mean travellers will be required to use MyNIISe for immigration clearance starting tomorrow.

Despite this, the government is still encouraging Malaysians to register for the app using their MyDigital ID

The government still plans to implement MyDigital ID — first announced in 2023 by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim — as a single login identity for Malaysians to access various government services and portals.

Zakaria also encouraged the public to download the MyNIISe app to clear immigration with a QR code — similar to MyBorderPass — saying that it is faster and more efficient compared to existing processes

"For those who wish to use the QR code facility, they will need to download the MyNIISe application and register using a MyDigital ID. That is all, and overall, the immigration clearance process will not be disrupted," he said, as quoted by Bernama.

He added that the MyBorderPass app will continue to be used until it is fully integrated into the MyNIISe system, although the transition period has yet to be determined.
