IGP: Police Investigating If S’wak Businessman’s Wife Was Taken By Cops Or Impersonators
He said the police cannot disclose further details on the investigation.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is investigating the possibility that Datin Seri Pamela Ling Yueh, who went missing on 9 April, may have been taken by police or individuals impersonating them
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said investigators are reviewing all available information, including testimony from the e-hailing driver who took Ling to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya, as well as CCTV footage from the area.
"All witness statements, including from the driver, are currently being collected. We are investigating claims that she was taken by individuals dressed in police uniforms or vests," he said.
Razarudin said the police could not reveal further details at this time to avoid jeopardising ongoing investigations, reported the New Straits Times.
"At this stage, I have instructed the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to assist the Kuala Lumpur police contingent with this case and to track down Pamela's whereabouts," he added.
The IGP declined to comment on whether Ling's disappearance was linked to her personal assets but did not rule out the possibility that it was staged to discredit the authorities
This follows concerns raised by a lawyer over whether the MACC took adequate measures to protect Ling, who vanished shortly before she was due to give a statement in a money laundering investigation.
The 42-year-old is a mother of three. She is the wife of prominent Sarawak businessman Datuk Seri Thomas Hah Tiing Siu, the founder of the Miri-based JoinLand Group.
The case is being investigated under Section 365 of the Penal Code for abduction.
